Safeclip and SimplePractice Note Taker

SimplePractice Note Taker is an optional AI add-on inside the SimplePractice EHR. It captures session audio, transcribes it in real time and drafts progress notes you review and edit before saving. Safeclip is a separate desktop app that keeps the session on your computer and gives you a note to paste into whatever records system you use, including SimplePractice.

Facts at a glance

Where audio is processed

SimplePractice Note Taker
In SimplePractice during the session. Note Taker uses live transcription in the appointment, and draft notes are generated with Claude by Anthropic (per SimplePractice’s Note Taker FAQ).
Safeclip
On your computer with local Whisper.

What leaves your device

SimplePractice Note Taker
Session audio and transcripts are handled inside your SimplePractice account as part of their HIPAA program. SimplePractice says the audio is deleted once the transcript is generated. Transcripts are available for review for up to 7 days or until the note is signed, per SimplePractice’s Note Taker FAQ. Since June 17, 2026, SimplePractice may retain a de-identified copy of the transcript to improve Note Taker, with clinician opt-out (Note Taker FAQ and Transcription retention FAQs).
Safeclip
Session audio and notes stay on your computer. They are not sent to Safeclip. The app makes a short list of network calls, published at /what-leaves.
