Privacy & data

Privacy policy, in plain language.

Short version: your notes and recordings stay on your machine, and we stay out of them. This page spells out the small amount of data we do touch, and everything we refuse to collect.

1. Introduction

Safeclip is operated by Safeclip, LLC. Safeclip is a signed-in local desktop application. Your data belongs to you and stays on your computer. This policy explains what we collect (very little) and how we handle it.

2. What We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary for the application to function:

2.1 Account Information

Safeclip requires a free account to sign in on desktop. When you register, we store:

  • Email address
  • Display name (optional)
  • Avatar image (optional, if you upload one)

2.2 Your Notes and Projects

All recordings, transcripts, notes, and project data are stored locally on your device. We never receive, store, or process your audio, transcriptions, or note content on our servers.

2.3 Session Information

For authentication and licensing purposes:

  • Session tokens (used only for authentication)
  • License status (to verify your plan on the desktop app)
  • IP address (temporarily logged for session management, not stored long-term)

3. What We Do NOT Collect

We do NOT collect or use:

  • Your audio recordings, transcripts, or note content, ever
  • Analytics or behavioral tracking data
  • Device fingerprints or location data
  • Third-party cookies or tracking pixels
  • Any data for advertising or marketing purposes

4. Local Processing

100% local AI processing: All transcription and AI summarization runs on your machine using models bundled with the app. We use open-source tools including Whisper for transcription. No audio, no text, and no queries from your notes are ever sent to our servers or any third-party AI service.

The app works on a plane. We could not read your notes if we wanted to, they are never transmitted anywhere.

5. Data Storage

All notes, recordings, and project data are stored locally on your computer. We do not store your content on our servers.

You own your data. You can delete your account and all associated account information at any time. Because your note content lives only on your machine, deleting it there is entirely under your control.

6. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or rent your data to anyone. Period.

The only circumstances where we might access or disclose account data are:

  • If required by law or court order
  • To protect our rights or prevent illegal activity

No third-party services: We do not integrate with analytics services, advertising networks, or data brokers.

7. Cookies

We use session cookies only for authentication. These are essential for the application to function and are not used for tracking. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies.

8. Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: View your account information at any time
  • Delete: Delete your account and associated account data at any time
  • Export: Export your notes, transcripts, and projects from the desktop app
  • Control: All note and recording content lives only on your machine

9. Security

We implement standard security measures to protect your account information. Because Safeclip processes everything on your own device, the security of your note content depends on the security of your own computer, not ours.

10. Service Providers

We use a small number of third-party service providers, each acting solely as a data processor on our behalf and prohibited from using your data for their own purposes:

  • Stripe , payment processing for the Founding License. Stripe receives your payment card data; we do not store it. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
  • Authentication infrastructure , session tokens are stored in our database for sign-in only.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers. No personal information is sold or shared for cross-context behavioral advertising.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information we have collected, subject to certain exceptions.
