Once the models are downloaded, recording, transcription and the session summary run with no connection, so losing Wi-Fi in the middle of a session doesn't stop the recording or the note. No account is needed. If you sign in for Founding, the license works offline too and re-checks when you reconnect.
Consent, built in.
Safeclip shows a consent reminder when a meeting is detected and on screen while you record. It is on by default when you set Safeclip up for therapy. Safeclip doesn't join calls as a bot, so asking is up to you, and the reminder keeps it in view.

When a cloud scribe is the better pick
Upheal, Mentalyc, Freed and Heidi are cloud scribes built for clinical documentation; Abridge does the same for health systems. They process the session on their servers. Pick one of them instead if you need:
- A signed BAA. These scribes offer one. Safeclip doesn’t.
- Structured clinical note formats and templates for your specialty.
- Notes in your EHR. Abridge and Heidi connect to Epic; others fill notes into SimplePractice, TherapyNotes and similar EHRs through a browser extension.
- A phone app, or languages other than English.

Does this replace my EHR?
What happens to the audio after transcription?
It stays on your computer with the session, in your Safeclip library, so you can check the transcript against it. It is not sent to Safeclip. You can delete a recording any time, or set Safeclip to delete recordings automatically after a number of days. Transcripts and notes are kept.
If you’d rather not keep session audio at all, turn on Ghost mode. Live recordings are transcribed in short chunks that are deleted right away, and you keep the transcript and the note.
Do you sign a BAA?
No. Safeclip does not offer a Business Associate Agreement and makes no compliance claims. Session audio and notes stay on your computer and are not sent to Safeclip. Whether your practice needs a BAA depends on your setup, including any cloud features you turn on, so check with your compliance advisor.
Do I need my client’s consent to record?
Get it. Professional codes generally expect informed consent before a session is recorded, and many laws require it. Check your licensing board’s guidance and the law where you and your client are. Safeclip’s consent reminder, shown when a meeting is detected and on screen while you record, is a prompt; it doesn’t replace a consent form.

Do I need an account?
No account needed to use Safeclip. You only sign in to buy Founding. Without an account, the app sends no license check at all.
What if I lose internet during a session?
Recording, transcription and the local summary keep working once the models are downloaded. With Founding, signing in needs a connection once. After that the app keeps working offline and re-checks your license when you reconnect.
Which languages does it understand?
English only today. The speech models Safeclip ships with (Whisper base.en, and small.en if you choose it) are English models. If your conversations are in another language, Safeclip is not the right tool yet.
